Manteca’s 13th album's release “Augmented Indifference”

I wanted to let you know that I am absolutely honored and over the moon to have been invited to sing on Manteca’s 13th album’s release; “Augmented Indifference”. We played Montreal Jazz Festival last year, 3 nights in a row, the dance floor was packed with people of all ages and cultures – I cannot tell you how electrifying it is to stand on stage with these musicians, some of whom are the original band members and to feel the power of all the percussion and horns and savour the energy of some of the most generous, gracious and talented humans…. I sing with the horn section, no lyrics, just melodies and grooves. And you better groove Tremblay because this is usually an instrumental band, no singers. It all started with one of their tunes called “Deep Dish”, which was playing in the car on our way to a Manteca show, I was singing along, like you might in the shower, if it was a really big shower with a horn section in it and Matt Zimbel, the band leader and my dear partner got all excited about the layer the singing  brought to the horn section and dared me to join them and give it a try. I did and oh! What fun it was!

On some songs, I get to jam with the great multi-instrumentalist Colleen Allen who I call a Goddess!

After 41 years together, this Toronto-native legacy band is still putting out killer tunes and rockstar performances and I have now made it on one of their recordings. Pinch me!

Manteca represents the passion and resilience it takes to survive for that long in Canada. Very inspiring!
